the banks to stop the team from sealing
The Oyo State Board of
Internal Revenue have sealed twelve banks in the state capital, Ibadan, for
non-pay
find ment of Environmental Development Levy spanning over three years.
Two enforcement teams
from the board stormed the banks on Monday to effect the order; despite efforts
from some staff of the banks to stop the team from sealing the banks, it
however, took the intervention of security agencies attached to the teams to
ensure that the order was carried out.
The banks affected are
locat
house ed in Dugbe, Ring Road, Challenge, Jericho, Bodies, Mokola and Iyaganku
areas of Ibadan.
The amount owed by the
banks acc
business
ording to the board ranges from N800,000 to N5m. Many customers were
unable to access the premises while those inside had to leave through
alternative routes.
The Chairman of the
board, Mr Bicci Alli, while speaking to newsmen, said the banks were given
notice several times, but failed to respond.
He said, “We wrote
letters to them to perfect their books but they did not do the right thing. We
published reminders in two national dailies but we did not get their response.
“It is unfortunate that
we had to use this method to force them to do the right thing. It is a
continuous exercise that will end at the end of the week.”
