The Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue

 

The Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue have sealed twelve banks in the state capital, Ibadan, for non-payment of En usatimes.cc vironmental Development Levy spanning over three years.

Two enforcement teams from the board stormed the banks on Monday to effect the order; despite efforts from some staff of usanews.cc the banks to stop the team from sealing the banks, it however, took the intervention of security agencies attached to the teams to ensure that news the order was carried out.

The banks affected are located in Dugbe, Ring Road, Challenge, Jericho, Bodies, Mokola and Iyaganku areas of Ibadan.

The amount owed by the banks according to the board ranges from N800,000 to N5m. Many customers were unable to access the premises while those inside had to leave through alternative routes.

The Chairman of the board, Mr Bicci Alli, while speaking to newsmen, said the banks were given notice several times, but failed to respond.

He said, “We wrote letters to them to perfect their books but they did not do the right thing. We published reminders in two national dailies but we did not get their response.

“It is unfortunate that we had to use this method to force them to do the right thing. It is a continuous exercise that will end at the end of the week.”
